Team Discussion Leads
To prepare for leading a class discussion please coordinate with your co-lead(s) to fairly distribute the work. Please note that you are still responsible for having read/watched/listened to, etc. all assigned material just like during any other week.
On the class’s discussion lead slide deck please read the first slide then scroll to your assigned week/day and follow the instructions. Please make clear which parts you were responsible for–you can do this by adding your name at the bottom of the slide. If more than one person contributed to a slide add both your names.
Keep in mind that leading a discussion is less about giving a lecture or presentation, than it is about facilitating discussion with the whole class. In other words, take time to walk us through the slides, but allocate the bulk of class discussion time to the actual discussion. The slides can serve as a handy reference, but shouldn’t dominate.
We have about an hour for class discussions. Don’t stress about having to fill that time – you’re responsible for the slides and getting us started/facilitating, but it is also the responsibility of your fellow classmates to engage and speak up. I can also help facilitate and of course clarify and answer any questions.
Lastly, it’s OK if you struggle with any of the content (that’s part of learning!). Feel free to raise questions about material that you are unclear about and we’ll all grapple with it together. Remember, we’re all here to learn together and from each other.
Tips for Leading Discussion
